William Raymond Tanksley
Director 1960-1978
Mr. Tanksley, known as "Chief" to his students at FCHS, was a native of Roxboro, NC. Ray received his B. S. degree in music from Middle Tennessee State College in 1952 and he did graduate work at MTSU. He began his teaching career at Trousdale County High School. Before coming to Franklin County High School in 1960, Ray was band director at McEachern High School in Cobb County, GA. Mr. Tanksley married Miss Jimmie Lou Copeland of Winchester. They had three sons, Tony, Bruce, and David.
