W. Aaron Buckley
Director 1949 - 1969
Mr. Buckley, known as "Mr. B", was born in Winchester, Franklin County, Tennessee. At the young age of 8, due to an explosion in his mother's kitchen, Mr. Buckley lost most of his sight. He attended the Tennessee School for the Blind in Nashville where he first studied music. He  later enrolled at Peabody College in Nashville, where he pursued instruction in instrumental music in the early 1930's.  His flirtation with flats and sharps took him into dance bands and military bands, including the 323rd U. S. Reserve Band as a young man. He had his own group of musicians, "The Winchester Foot Warmers," and hired his own hall at a location on the Courthouse square in Winchester, before settling down to become bandmaster and private tutor at the Central High School on North Jefferson Street in Winchester. Mr. Buckley also taught at Huntland High School in Huntland, Franklin County High School in Decherd, Franklin County High School in Winchester.
